Our History
When Denny and Brenda O'Brien bought RE/MAX of Lafayette
from the late John Dyer in September of 1989, there were 15 agents. The 15
agents were located in two separate offices. Brenda, acting as the Broker
for both offices, wanted to consolidate the two very small offices into one
large modern facility offering the latest in technology and design. In
August of 1992, Denny and Brenda hosting a "Grand Opening" of their new 46
office space - bringing the total square footage to 8,100.
The flat roofed building located in downtown Lafayette that was purchased
from John Dyer only had 15 offices, and was in need of many updates. The
building located in the heart of downtown Lafayette, offers agents and
their clients all the accessibility to the local lenders and title companies.
The area of the building is also in a downtown historical district, with the
historical museum across the street. The O'Brien's worked very hard to
offer a designed red bricked building that would blend in with the historic
community. Local newspapers complemented the O'Brien's on accomplishing
this goal of building a "new modern" facility with an old look. The Greater
Lafayette Downtown Business Center honored them with the highest honor that
a business could receive; the William Digby Award, for their
development success of the new building. The Greater Lafayette Chamber of
Commerce honored the O'Brien's with the Beautification Award, for exterior
landscaping.
The attractive new building with all the latest equipment for the associates
was very appealing to other agents and also other real estate companies.
RE/MAX of
Lafayette increased their agent count to 27, from 1992 through 1994. Other
competing companies felt the need to build new buildings, or modernize their
existing facilities also to attract new agents. Other companies felt the
need to be bigger. "If you build it they will come", theory. So the
O'Brien's felt the need again to have "one up" on their competition. In
August of 1994, they hired a marketing director to manage the recruiting of
agents and the marketing of the company. It paid off for them; from
December of 1994 to December of 1996 the associate total rose to 47.
Almost gaining them an agent a month.
Due to the increase of associates coming to RE/MAX
of Lafayette the O'Brien's knew to be able to continue to grow and recruit
they had to creatively make more space. The O'Brien's believe in giving
their agents the best - in offering large private offices not partitioned
walls. But there was no more room in the Inn. January 1997 they had to turn
their large basement conference room and fitness/workout room into 11
temporary offices. Another level to the back portion of their building was
to be created. The O'Brien's had originally designed the first new addition
in 1992 to be laid out to "some day" go up one more floor. And that they
did, a third floor was completed by October of 1997, offering 22 more
offices bringing the square footage to now - 13,260.
The current office layout works very well for the associates. With Brenda
in real estate for over 19 years, she knew what the associates and their
clients needed. When you enter the RE/MAX
of Lafayette building a large open vaulted ceiling foyer welcomes you with
a warm bright feeling. Large private associate offices allow the associate
to meet with their clients in their own office. Nine conference rooms are
also made available. Two large media room work stations on each level: with
fax machine, copier, MLS computers, typewriters, laser printer, scanner etc.
The office also offers a front desk commander, 21 phone lines with the
latest voicemail center, phone forwarding, RNS video library, cable
television and computer hook-up in each associate office and parking for
50 cars.
